    As regards crystals, I think it would be worth mentioning Dilithium crystals as well. By the mid-70s, they were certainly better known than anything Terry Brooks wrote. Sure, Star Trek was nominally SF rather than Fantasy, but then so was Darkover.

    But then when considering how to charge ding-batteries, “nominally SF” is probably more effective than outright fantasy anyway.

    The criticism of Brooks in the recent eps really pains me.
    TB was one of the first fantasy authors I read and he seemed like a really nice guy when I met him at Gencon a few years ago.
    It may be deeply generic high fantasy, but I’ve enjoyed all of his books I’ve read.

    Yeah, I’m not sure how someone who praises Lovecraft so much can be so contemptuous of Brooks and casually patronizing of Zimmer Bradley.
