Episode 53: My Feelings About Hatchets Have Completely Changed

August 23rd, 2013 | Robin

In the Gaming Hut we power up our universal translators to contemplate the treatment of languages in roleplaying.

Then we review our way through the summer blockbuster season in the Cinema Hut.

In an Ask Ken and Robin lightning round, we dispatch questions right and left, entertaining queries from the diceless to the non-violent.

Then, under the watchful eyes of benevolent Google gods, our Cartography Hunt/Conspiracy Corner co-production takes the aerial view of the Kazakhstan pentagram.

Join us in a hearty welcome to our latest sponsor, Gorilla Games, now Kickstarting Monsterย  Derby, their full contact road rage road race board game!

    Great show, Gentlemen, thanks!

When discussing the handling of languages in-game I had my own thoughts, which you easily dwarfed, specifically inspired by the saying: “when speaking to someone in a second language you speak to their mind, when speaking to someone in their mother’s tongue you speak to their heart.” Being able to function, whether it be getting amenities or directions, may be hand-waved, but a certain level of diplomacy may be restricted without the relevant language knowledge.

We need to hear how you can link the Snowden leaks to the Toronto city mayor non-sense in one globe-trotting conspiracy. Someone needs to start a game called “Six Degrees of Edward Snowden”

  2. I am fairly certain that no studio executive has ever written a memo saying “I don’t understand this.” The equivalent sentiment in Hollywoodese is “The audience won’t understand this.”

  3. Steve Dempsey says:

I think this nails all the things wrong about STID: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=6B22Uy7SBe4

  4. Paul Sweeney says:

I couldn’t help but notice that you’d mentioned a Jane Eyre themed RPG in this episode. Would you happen to know where I can exchange money for PDFs in an attempt to lure my wife back to the gaming table?

    Cheers,
    Paul

  5. Joshua Weiss says:

I have noticed that the Gaming Hut no longer smells of Doritos, Cheetos or pizza. Is the community at large on a diet?

  6. Daniel says:

Ken & Robin escaped Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson. Thank you very much ๐Ÿ™‚
But I’m not Daniel Stanke, I’m Daniel Neugebauer ๐Ÿ˜€ Too many Daniels ๐Ÿ˜€
