Episode 256: 13/10, Would Betray

August 25th, 2017 | Robin

That ambient sound you hear is the muffled bustle of the Embassy Suites in beautiful downtown Indianapolis as we record a face-to-face episode immediately prior to the sweet chaos of Gen Con.

We start in a portable version of the Gaming Hut to answer a question from Patreon backer Alexandria Permann, who wants to know how to sell players on unfamiliar genres and settings.

Then we guard against korrigan magic as we dare enter the Mythology Hut for an overview of Breton folklore.

How To Write Good looks at scenes in which antagonists scheme against one another.

Then we delve into the Eliptony Hut for a topic Ken can tackle from memory: cold war psychic warfare.

  1. Tim Emrick says:

This week’s Eliptony Hut is timely, because I am currently reading “The Last Oracle,” by James Rollins. I’m not very far into it yet, but the premise seems to be: What if the ancient oracles of Delphi (and elsewhere) really were psychic prophets, and that ability was transmitted genetically to their descendants? Cold War psychic warfare gets reinterpreted as the superpowers racing to find those descendants, figure out how their powers work, and control and improve the process. Project Stargate gets name-dropped early on as the modern-day [2008] protagonists try to unravel the conspiracies they’ve stumbled into.
