Episode 494: Sidekicks to the Bear

April 29th, 2022 | Robin

In an episode dedicated to recreating for posterity the good half of an old installment that has since gone missing, the Gaming Hut looks at campaigns where most of the PCs are sidekicks to a superior hero.

In the Tradecraft Hut we examine the career of former Putin aide Vladislav Surkov, the so-called Gray Cardinal behind Russia’s foray into postmodern authoritarianism, now under house arrest for Ukraine-related failures.

The Mythology Hut rises from the waves at the behest of beloved Patreon backer Toonspew, who wants to know about the kingdom of Ys.

And back to the recreation, the Consulting Occultist provides a profile of 13th century magician Roger Bacon.

I have a copy of episode 154 on my phone, but I have no way to export it as a file. If somebody knows a way for me to give this episode back to Ken and Robin let me know.

  2. Michael Cule says:

I’m surprised that Ken didn’t bring up the story of Lyonnesse which is Ys (and its Welsh siblings) writ large: a whole kingdom lost to the sea. It has the story of the last man to flee riding his horse just ahead of the wave: supposedly the basis of the coats of arms of the Trevelyan and Vyvyan families.

  3. Fred Kiesche says:

I’m pretty sure I have 154 downloaded on my PC. As a Beloved Patreon Backer, I would make it my duty to pass a copy back.

  4. Phil Masters says:

I frequently keep downloaded copies of the podcast, because 1 Tb disc why not, and I do have 154; if it’d help, I can pass a copy back to our esteemed hosts.

  5. Vulpine says:

What I get for not listening yesterday, I could have been first Gene Hackman 😉

  6. Chris Nolen says:

I also have #154 downloaded and would gladly send it your way.

  7. Daniel Krongaard says:

I’d also like to point out that the Wayback machine has a copy on it if you go back to the date of the episode.
