Episode 5: Gen Con ‘12

September 7th, 2012 | Robin

It’s a bumper installment of Travel Advisory as Ken and Robin look back on the whirlwind that was Gen Con 2012. Amid the fast-flying references: Fantasy Flight’s Spartacus and Netrunner; GURPS Horror, Book of the Smoke, Bookhounds of London, the Coventry Street, Harmonsworth and Highgate Vampires; Charles Fort, Lorefinder, Ashen Stars, 13th Age, Delta Green, John Helfers, Matt Forbeck, Pathfinder Tales.

In Ken and Robin Recycle Audio choice snippets of the GUMSHOE Investigative roleplaying panel are presented for your delectation, with special guest silvered tones supplied by Pelgrane Press publisher Simon Rogers. They add Night’s Black Agents and The Esoterrorists to the reference tally.

In this podcast Ken talks about the central economy to NBA, what’s the economy for the other GUMSHOE games?

Hi guys. Thanks for the kind words about GURPS Horror, 1st Ed. It’s still my favorite.

I’m really enjoying the podcast, though I am filled with jealousy as you recount tales of all the neat stuff the two of you are working on. That could have been me, if I only had a much stronger work ethic and a scoche more smarts. Keep up the great work!

recycling content at episode 5? what is this, anime?

Sorry Robin, I’d just assumed you were some sort of game-designing robot sent from the future to bring fun to us all (possibly to avert some impeding disaster), either that or both rooms give your voice a similar echo-y as fuck quality.

This namechecking of Bellairs and the Three Investigators has piqued my interest in BubbleGUMSHOE.

That and Ken’s remark “Formative stories for people who grew up reading books in the public library” hit home with me, as I discovered wonderful troves of both Bellairs and Three Investigators novels wandering through the children’s section of my local library as a child, occasionally making unexpected finds when a paperback edition turned up in the wild west of the spinning racks.

  5. Brian Kelsay says:

There was some comment near the end of this episode by Ken that made me LOL at the absurd imagery of it. I intended to repeat the descriptive phrase to my wife when I made it home, but it was so new and absurd that it flew right out of my head.

Something like “meathook” something-or-other. i need to go back and find this gem.
